The 600m Run/Walk is a timed distance test — walking is allowed, but the goal is always the fastest possible completion time, since that is exactly what measures cardiovascular endurance here.

The chapter lists the equipment needed as a stopwatch, whistle, marker cone, lime powder and a measuring tape, laid out on a 200m or 400m track at least 1.22m (minimum 1m) wide, ideally on a flat, even playground with clearly marked start and finish lines. Participants begin on the signal 'ready, start' and attempt to cover 600 metres as fast as possible; as each crosses the finish line, their elapsed time is announced to them.
