Natality is the population's birth rate (individuals added); mortality is its death rate (individuals lost).

In population ecology, natality refers to the number of births (or, more generally, new individuals produced -- by hatching, germination, or similar means) per unit population per unit time; it represents an addition to population size and is usually expressed as a rate (e.g., births per 1000 individuals per year).
