Gene gun / biolistic (particle bombardment) method: In this technique, tiny particles of gold or tungsten are coated with the DNA to be introduced. These DNA-coated micro-particles are then physically bombarded ('shot') at high velocity into the target cells or tissue (commonly used for plant cells, which have a rigid cell wall that other methods struggle to breach) using a specialised device (the 'gene gun'). Once inside, the DNA can be released from the particles and integrated into the host cell's genome. This method is especially valuable for genetically transforming plant cells and tissues.
