Rosenmund reduction converts an acyl chloride selectively to an aldehyde using H₂ over a poisoned Pd catalyst.

In the Rosenmund reduction, an acid chloride is hydrogenated in the presence of a palladium catalyst supported on barium sulphate, partially poisoned/deactivated with sulphur or quinoline. The poisoned catalyst is just active enough to reduce the acid chloride to the aldehyde, but not active enough to further reduce the aldehyde to the primary alcohol.
