The cerebrum, the brain's largest and most convoluted region, governs voluntary motor control, sensory interpretation, and higher intellectual functions.

i) Diagram: the human brain would be shown in three main divisions - Forebrain (cerebrum + thalamus + hypothalamus), Midbrain, and Hindbrain (cerebellum + pons + medulla oblongata), with the large, deeply folded cerebrum occupying the topmost/front region of the skull.

ii) Cerebrum: It is the largest and most highly developed part of the human forebrain, divided into two cerebral hemispheres (left and right) connected internally by a thick band of nerve fibres called the corpus callosum. The outer layer, the cerebral cortex, is composed of grey matter and is thrown into folds - elevated ridges called gyri and grooves called sulci - which greatly increase its surface area; beneath the cortex lies white matter (myelinated nerve fibre tracts). Each hemisphere is divided into lobes (frontal, parietal, temporal, occipital) associated with different motor, sensory and association functions.
