Step 1. (Honesty note.) As literally printed, this is lim⁡x→∞ax−bxx\displaystyle\lim_{x\to\infty}\dfrac{a^x-b^x}{x}. For general a,b>0a,b>0 this expression does not have a single well-defined closed-form limit at infinity — this is a known erratum in the source textbook.
