Sick Sinus Syndrome is a malfunction of the SA node (the heart's natural pacemaker), leading to abnormal heart rates or rhythms — too slow, too fast, alternating between the two, or with pauses in the heartbeat.

The sinoatrial (SA) node, located in the wall of the right atrium, is the natural pacemaker of the heart — it initiates each heartbeat by generating a rhythmic electrical impulse that spreads through the atria (via the AV node, bundle of His and Purkinje fibres) to the ventricles, coordinating a regular heartbeat.
