Step 1. In a closed circulatory system, blood is confined entirely within a network of vessels of varying diameter — arteries, veins, and fine capillaries — that carry it directly to and from tissues. This system is seen in annelids, cephalochordates and vertebrates (and cephalopod molluscs).
