Reproductive System

Sexes are separate in the frog. In the male, a pair of testes is attached to the kidney and the dorsal body wall by folds of peritoneum called the mesorchium; fine vasa efferentia carry sperm from each testis into the kidney on the same side, where they join the urinogenital duct that emerges from the kidney and empties into the cloaca - so in the male, the sperm and urine share the same duct. The female's system is structurally quite different: paired ovaries, attached to the kidneys and body wall by folds called the mesovarium, release ova into the body cavity, where they are picked up by a funnel-like opening (the ostium) at the front end of each coiled oviduct; posteriorly, each oviduct widens into an ovisac that temporarily stores mature eggs before they pass into the cloaca, so the female's genital ducts rema …
