It is applied mainly to industrial and electrical products — common examples include electrical wires and cables, pressure cookers, LPG cylinders and regulators, helmets, cement, and similar items where a manufacturing defect could pose a genuine safety risk to the user.
A product carrying the ISI mark has been checked and found to meet the defined quality and safety requirements laid down for that product category, covering aspects such as material quality, construction, and safe performance under normal use. A similar-looking product without the mark has simply not been verified in the same way — it may still be safe, but there is no independent, testable assurance of that, which is exactly the gap the mark is meant to close for the buyer. …
