The coefficient of friction is independent of weight; it stays the same when the weight is doubled.

The force of friction f between two surfaces is related to the normal reaction N by:

f = mu * N

so that the coefficient of friction is:

mu = f / N

The coefficient of friction mu depends only on the nature and roughness of the two surfaces in contact (and whether they are dry, lubricated, etc.). It does not depend on the weight or the area of contact.
