A pair of ovoid testes is attached, via a thin supporting mesentery (the mesorchium), to the upper region of each kidney. Sperm produced in the testes travels through a series of very fine tubules called the vasa efferentia, which pass directly from the testis into the adjacent kidney tissue. Once inside the kidney, the sperm-carrying vasa efferentia join the kidney's own collecting ducts, so sperm is carried onward through the same duct — the kidney's urinogenital duct (Wolffian duct) — that also carries the kidney's urinary waste.
