Eddy currents are induced swirling currents within a solid conductor caused by a changing magnetic flux through it, governed by Faraday's and Lenz's laws just like currents in a wire loop.

Definition: When the magnetic flux through a bulk piece of a conductor (like a metal plate or the core of a transformer) changes — either because the conductor moves through a non-uniform field, or the field itself varies with time — circulating (eddy-like) currents are induced within the body of the conductor itself, not confined to a single wire loop. By Lenz's law, these currents flow in a direction that opposes the change in flux producing them.

Effects / uses:
