After ovulation, the ruptured Graafian follicle transforms into the corpus luteum, a yellow endocrine structure that secretes progesterone to support pregnancy.

After the Graafian follicle ruptures and releases the ovum during ovulation, the remaining follicular cells (granulosa and theca cells) under the influence of luteinising hormone (LH) undergo structural and biochemical changes, accumulating a yellow pigment called lutein.
