Its importance for industrial development lies in several linked advantages:
- Direct access to sea trade. Andhra Pradesh has one of India's longest coastlines (~970 km, second only to Gujarat) along the Bay of Bengal, giving it ready access to shipping routes for both imports of raw materials and exports of finished goods — a decisive advantage for export-oriented manufacturing.
