The period from 1952 to 1957 in Jammu and Kashmir is a crucial chapter in Indian political history, marked by the region's unique integration into the Indian Union. When the state's Constituent Assembly was formed to draft a separate constitution, the National Conference held a commanding majority. Sheikh Abdullah served as the Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir from 1947 until his dismissal in 1953, and his party continued to govern under his successor, Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad, through the rest of the decade.
