Economically, the same forces produce opposite outcomes: a skilled software engineer in Bengaluru gains foreign clients, higher salaries and new technology, while a small textile workshop closes because it cannot match cheaper imports. Globalisation rewards those with skills, capital and mobility and marginalises those without. Culturally, a metropolitan teenager may embrace global music, fashion and food, while a rural elder may experience the same media as a threat to local custom and language — the same reach, very different meaning. Politically, multinational corporations and trade agreements can constrain governments' ability to protect domestic industry or labour; strong states negotiate better terms, weaker ones have policies effectively shaped from outside. Environmentally, emissions are global but the suffering is unequal — a low-lying island nation faces existential threat while a temperate country may see longer growing seasons. …
