Part (a): Management is important because it helps achieve group goals, increases efficiency, creates a dynamic organisation, and helps individuals achieve personal objectives. Part (b): Co-ordination integrates group efforts, ensures unity of action, is a continuous and all-pervasive process, and is the responsibility of all managers.

Part (a)

The statement rightly holds that success comes from the deliberate process of management. Four points that highlight its importance are:

  1. Management helps in achieving group goals. An organisation has many individuals with different goals. Management arranges the factors of production, assembles and organises resources, and gives everyone a common direction so that individual efforts are integrated towards the organisation's goals.
  2. Management increases efficiency. A manager aims to cut costs and raise productivity. Through better planning, organising, directing and controlling, management minimises the waste of time, money and effort, obtaining maximum output from given inputs — that is, greater efficiency.
  3. Management creates a dynamic organisation. The business environment changes constantly. Management helps the organisation and its people adapt; a good manager makes employees accept change willingly rather than resist it, keeping the organisation competitive. …
