Q.The demand function for a product is Qd=100−2PQ_d = 100 - 2P and the supply function is Qs=−20+3PQ_s = -20 + 3P, where PP is the price per unit. Find the equilibrium price and quantity.

At market equilibrium, quantity demanded equals quantity supplied at the same price, so we set Qd=QsQ_d = Q_s:

100−2P=−20+3P100 - 2P = -20 + 3P

Collecting the PP terms on one side and the constants on the other:

100+20=3P+2P100 + 20 = 3P + 2P

120=5P120 = 5P

P=24P = 24

So the equilibrium price is Pe=24P_e = 24.

Finding the equilibrium quantity, substitute P=24P=24 into the demand function:

Qe=100−2(24)=100−48=52Q_e = 100 - 2(24) = 100 - 48 = 52

Dual check using the supply function:

Qs=−20+3(24)=−20+72=52Q_s = -20 + 3(24) = -20 + 72 = 52 …
