Step 1. Recall how fatty acids enter the respiratory pathway. Beta-oxidation of fatty acids produces acetyl-CoA directly as its end product - the same molecule that pyruvic acid is converted into by the link reaction when glucose is the substrate. Fatty acids therefore join the pathway already as acetyl-CoA, without ever passing through the glucose-to-pyruvate steps of glycolysis.

Step 2. Check what still happens after acetyl-CoA is formed. Once acetyl-CoA is available - whether from glycolysis-derived pyruvate or directly from fatty-acid beta-oxidation - it enters the Krebs cycle exactly as before, and its reduced coenzymes are oxidised by the electron transport chain with terminal oxidation at oxygen, exactly as before.
