Real-time Analysis Pollution Prevention
This principle calls for analytical methods to be developed and continually improved so that manufacturing and processing can be monitored and controlled in real time, in-process, rather than only being checked after the fact -- and specifically so that problems can be caught prior to the formation of hazardous substances, not just after they have already been produced. In practice this means the analytical methodologies used in industry need to be developed or modified so that continuous, ongoing monitoring of manufacturing and processing units becomes possible throughout a process, rather than only through periodic after-the-event sampling.
