Step 1. H2S is a weak diprotic acid that dissociates partially, H2S⇌H++HS−H_2S\rightleftharpoons H^++HS^-, itself supplying H+ as one of its products.

Step 2. HCl is a strong acid, dissociating almost completely and supplying a large additional amount of the SAME ion, H+.
