Step 1. CuSO4 is the salt of strong acid H2SO4 and weak base Cu(OH)2 (section 3.7.4), so its Cu2+ ion hydrolyses: Cu2+(aq)+4H2O(l)⇌Cu(OH)2(aq)+2H3O+(aq)Cu^{2+}(aq)+4H_2O(l)\rightleftharpoons Cu(OH)_2(aq)+2H_3O^+(aq).
