Relative Lowering of Vapour Pressure

2.7.2

Relative Lowering of Vapour Pressure

The ratio of the vapour pressure lowering of the solvent divided by the vapour pressure of the pure solvent is called the relative lowering of vapour pressure. Thus,

Relative vapour pressure lowering=ΔPP10=P10−P1P10...(2.7)\text{Relative vapour pressure lowering} = \frac{\Delta P}{P_1^0} = \frac{P_1^0 - P_1}{P_1^0} \qquad \text{...(2.7)}

Eq. (2.6) then shows that

ΔPP10=x2=P10−P1P10...(2.8)\frac{\Delta P}{P_1^0} = x_2 = \frac{P_1^0 - P_1}{P_1^0} \qquad \text{...(2.8)} …
