Once syngamy and triple fusion (double fertilization) have occurred, a series of changes convert the flower's structures into the mature fruit and seed:

Ovule -> Seed: the zygote (from syngamy) divides repeatedly to form the embryo; the primary endosperm nucleus (from triple fusion) develops into the nutritive endosperm tissue; the integuments of the ovule harden and thicken to form the protective seed coat (testa and tegmen).

Ovary -> Fruit: the ovary wall enlarges and matures into the pericarp (fruit wall), which may become fleshy (as in a berry) or dry (as in a pod or capsule), enclosing and protecting the developing seed(s).
