Q.Four bulbs P, Q, R, S are connected in a circuit of unknown arrangement. When each bulb is removed one at a time and replaced, the following behaviour is observed: with P removed, Q, R and S are all ON; with Q removed, P and R are ON but S is OFF; with R removed, P, Q and S are all OFF; with S removed, P and R are ON but Q is OFF. Draw the circuit diagram for these bulbs.

Step 1. "R removed: all off" means removing R kills every bulb, including P, Q and S -- so R must sit in the single MAIN line in series with the battery, since only a break in the main line can affect every other bulb at once.

Step 2. "P removed: Q, R, S all on" means removing P has no effect on Q, R or S at all -- so P must sit in its OWN separate parallel branch, independent of Q and S.

Step 3. "Q removed: P, R on, S off" and "S removed: P, R on, Q off" are a matched pair: removing either Q or S turns the OTHER one off as well, while leaving P and R unaffected. This is exactly the signature of Q and S being connected in SERIES with each other, inside a branch that is itself parallel to P's branch -- removing either one breaks that whole branch, taking both bulbs dark together, without touching the separate P branch or the main-line R.

Step 4. Assembling all four clues: the battery drives current through R (the main line); after R, the circuit splits into two parallel branches -- one containing P by itself, and the other containing Q and S in series with each other.

Step 5. Verifying against every row: P removed -- Q-S branch and R both still complete, so Q, R, S stay on (matches). Q removed -- Q-S branch broken, so both Q and S go off... …
