Looking at prophase and telophase side by side makes the reversal clear, event by event.
What prophase does:
- The chromosomal material condenses into compact mitotic chromosomes, each consisting of two chromatids joined at a centromere.
- The centrosome, having duplicated, moves toward opposite poles, and the mitotic apparatus of asters and spindle fibres begins to form.
- By the end of prophase, the golgi complexes, endoplasmic reticulum, nucleolus and the nuclear envelope are no longer visible — they have disappeared.
What telophase does:
- Once the daughter chromosomes reach the poles, they begin to decondense — uncoiling and loosening, losing the tightly compacted form that had made them individually visible, and blending back into a diffuse mass of chromatin.
- A nuclear envelope forms around each cluster of chromatin, creating two daughter nuclei.
- The nucleolus reappears, and the Golgi complex and endoplasmic reticulum, which had broken down earlier, are re-formed. …
