Work done in moving a charge on an equipotential surface is always zero because potential does not change along it.

An equipotential surface is defined as a surface on which the electric potential VV has the same value at every point.

The work done in moving a test charge qq from point AA to point BB is

W=q(VA−VB)W = q(V_A - V_B)

Since AA and BB lie on the same equipotential surface, VA=VBV_A = V_B, so

W=q(VA−VB)=0W = q(V_A - V_B) = 0
