Banking. Banking performs the essential function of mobilising household and business savings and channelling them, as credit, to firms, farmers and government for investment. India's banking system — the Reserve Bank of India as regulator, together with public and private commercial banks, regional rural banks, cooperative banks and newer entities such as small finance and payments banks — has expanded its reach substantially through financial inclusion initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and through the rapid growth of digital payments (including the Unified Payments Interface). Beyond its own direct contribution to GVA, banking plays an enabling role: without adequate access to credit and payment services, growth in agriculture, industry and the rest of the services sector would be considerably constrained.

Tourism. Tourism is a labour-intensive service industry generating income and employment across hotels, transport, travel agencies, handicrafts and food services, with a significant multiplier effect as tourist spending circulates through several linked local service activities. Domestic tourism accounts for the larger number of visits within India, while international tourism, though smaller in visitor numbers, contributes valuable foreign exchange earnings. Because it can generate employment in areas without heavy industrial investment, tourism is often highlighted as a relatively accessible route to rural and semi-urban income generation, including in Andhra Pradesh, which has a substantial base of temple towns, hill stations, beaches and wildlife destinations. …
