Step 1 — Count electron domains on Br.

Br has 7 valence electrons; 3 are used in bonds to 3 F atoms, and the remaining 4 electrons form 2 lone pairs. Total electron domains = 3 bond pairs + 2 lone pairs = 5, requiring sp3dsp^3d hybridisation and a trigonal bipyramidal electron-pair arrangement.

Step 2 — Placement of lone pairs.

By VSEPR theory, lone pairs occupy positions that minimise repulsion; in a trigonal bipyramid, equatorial positions have fewer close (90°) neighbours than axial positions. Both lone pairs therefore go equatorial, leaving one F also equatorial and two F axial.
