A job application is a formal letter written in response to an advertisement, applying for a post. In Class 12 it is written as a letter plus an attached bio-data (resume). It carries about 5 marks, word limit 120-150 words (the bio-data is tabulated and does not count heavily against the limit).
When it is used: applying for a teacher, receptionist, clerk, trainee, or similar advertised vacancy.

CBSE marking scheme (5 marks)
- Format - 1 mark: letter format + a separate, neatly tabulated bio-data block.
- Content - 2 marks: advertisement reference, suitability, and relevant bio-data fields.
- Expression - 2 marks: accuracy (1) + fluency (1).
