Several distinct reforms have been introduced to address the problems of traditional agricultural marketing in India.

First, regulated markets (APMC mandis) were set up under state Agricultural Produce Market Committee Acts to provide organised market yards with standard weighment, grading, and transparent auction-based sale, protecting farmers from some of the malpractices of unregulated trading -- though over time many APMC mandis themselves developed monopoly-like control and cartelisation among licensed traders, which became a fresh target for reform.

Second, e-NAM (National Agriculture Market), launched in 2016, is an online trading platform that links APMC mandis electronically across participating states, widening price discovery by letting buyers beyond the local mandi bid for produce.

Third, warehousing and storage reform has expanded scientific storage capacity through bodies such as the Food Corporation of India and state warehousing corporations, along with the Negotiable Warehouse Receipt system, which allows a farmer to deposit produce in an accredited warehouse and borrow against the receipt instead of being forced into distress sale immediately after harvest. …
