Having covered how amines are made (13.3), this section turns to how they physically behave -- their intermolecular forces, and the boiling points and water solubility that follow from those forces -- covered in the single subsection 13.4.1. As with several other transitional headings in this chapter (13.3, 13.6, 13.7), section 13.4 itself carries no independent chemistry of its own beyond this framing: it exists purely to introduce 13.4.1, which is where the actual comparison of primary, secondary and tertiary amines' hydrogen-bonding behaviour, and the resulting boiling-point and solubility trends against alkanes, alcohols and carboxylic acids …
