BF3 is trigonal planar (sp2 hybridised boron), with all three B-F bonds and 120-degree bond angles lying in one plane.

In BF3, the central boron atom has 3 valence electrons and forms 3 single bonds to fluorine, with no lone pair remaining on boron. To accommodate 3 bonding regions with no lone pairs, boron's one 2s and two of its 2p orbitals mix (hybridise) to form three equivalent sp2 hybrid orbitals. These three sp2 orbitals arrange themselves as far apart as possible in space to minimise electron-pair repulsion, which places them symmetrically in a single plane at 120 degrees to each other.
