- Language: names are always written (or treated as) Latin words, or latinized forms, regardless of the language of the country of origin.
- Capitalization: the first word (genus) always begins with a capital letter; the second word (species) always begins with a small/lowercase letter, even if it is derived from a proper noun.
- Style: when printed, the entire binomial name is written in italics; when handwritten or typed without italics available, each of the two words is separately underlined to indicate this. …
