Step 2. It contributes sporopollenin through structures called ubisch bodies, playing an important role in building up the pollen wall (specifically the exine).
Step 3. It also contributes pollenkitt, an oily material that is later transferred onto the pollen surface, where it attracts insects and protects the pollen from UV radiation.
