Effect of Noise Pollution
According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), there are direct links between noise exposure and health outcomes: heart disease, high blood pressure, stress-related illness, sleep disruption, hearing loss (deafness), and productivity loss are all documented problems related to noise pollution. Psychologically, noise increases stress and tension, nervousness, irritability, anxiety, depression, and panic attacks, and is also linked to peptic ulcers, severe headaches, and memory loss. Wildlife is affected too: marine animals are disturbed by noise from offshore and port activities, firecrackers frighten animals generally, and birds in particular are affected by increased air traffic noise.
