Aristotle's lantern is the lantern-shaped chewing apparatus in the mouth of sea urchins (class Echinoidea), used for scraping and grinding food.

In echinoderms of the class Echinoidea (sea urchins), the mouth on the underside (oral surface) of the animal contains a complex, self-sharpening masticatory (chewing) structure made of five calcareous plates (jaws), each tipped with a tooth, and operated by an elaborate system of muscles. When assembled, this structure resembles an old-fashioned five-sided lantern in shape — hence the name Aristotle's lantern, after Aristotle, who first described it in his History of Animals.
