Induction furnace. A coil carrying a high-frequency alternating current surrounds the metal to be melted. The rapidly changing flux induces strong eddy currents directly within the metal itself; the I2RI^2R heating from these currents raises the metal's temperature until it melts, entirely without any external flame or heating element touching it -- useful for melting metals in a very clean, controllable way.

Electromagnetic (eddy-current) braking. A strong magnet is placed close to a moving metal wheel, disc or rail (for example, on a train or roller-coaster). As the metal moves past the magnet's field, changing flux through the metal induces eddy currents in it; by Lenz's law, these currents create a magnetic force that opposes the relative motion between the metal and the magnet, smoothly slowing the vehicle down without any mechanical brake pad ever touching it -- reducing wear and giving a very smooth deceleration. …
