Step 1. Route a -- to n-propyl alcohol (primary). Section 15.2.4 states hydroboration-oxidation gives the ANTI-Markovnikov product; propene + diborane, (BH3)2, in THF forms tri-n-propylborane, which oxidation with alkaline H2O2 (H2O2/NaOH) converts to propan-1-ol (n-propyl alcohol) -- the only route in this chapter that reaches a primary alcohol from propene.
