Both are types of warehouses, but they differ mainly in respect of duty and control:
1. Meaning / Duty status: In a duty-paid warehouse, the import or customs duty on the stored goods has already been paid. In a bonded warehouse, the duty on the (usually imported) goods is not yet paid.
2. Control: Duty-paid warehouses are under the owner's / warehouse-keeper's control. Bonded warehouses are licensed and kept under the control and supervision of customs authorities.
3. Removal of goods: From a duty-paid warehouse, the owner can remove goods freely and at any time. From a bonded warehouse, goods can be removed only after the customs duty is paid.
