Teflon
Teflon is the common name for polytetrafluoroethylene, made by polymerizing tetrafluoroethylene gas (CF2=CF2) using free-radical initiators such as hydrogen peroxide or ammonium persulphate under high pressure, giving the repeating structure -[CF2-CF2]n-. Its defining property is chemical inertness: the C-F bond is exceptionally strong and very difficult to break, leaving teflon unaffected by corrosive alkalis and organic solvents; it is also tough and resistant to heat.
