Removing the stretch receptors removes the trigger for the micturition reflex, so urine keeps collecting in the bladder without any signal to empty it.

The wall of the urinary bladder contains stretch receptors that sense the degree of distension as urine collects. When the bladder fills to about 150-200 mL, these receptors send afferent nerve impulses to the spinal micturition centre, which in turn sends motor impulses causing contraction of the smooth muscle of the bladder wall (detrusor muscle) and relaxation of the internal urethral sphincter, producing the urge to urinate and eventual voiding.
