De Morgan's two theorems convert the complement of an OR into an AND of complements, and the complement of an AND into an OR of complements.

De Morgan's First Theorem: The complement of the sum (logical OR) of two (or more) variables equals the product (logical AND) of their individual complements: A+B‾=A‾⋅B‾\overline{A+B} = \overline{A}\cdot\overline{B}

In words: NOR of A and B equals NOT-A AND NOT-B. This can be verified with a truth table: for all four combinations of A,BA,B, A+B‾\overline{A+B} and A‾⋅B‾\overline{A}\cdot\overline{B} take identical values.

De Morgan's Second Theorem: The complement of the product (logical AND) of two (or more) variables equals the sum (logical OR) of their individual complements: A⋅B‾=A‾+B‾\overline{A\cdot B} = \overline{A}+\overline{B}

In words: NAND of A and B equals NOT-A OR NOT-B.
