Ohm's law states that the potential difference across a conductor is directly proportional to the current through it, provided physical conditions like temperature remain constant.

Statement: At constant temperature, the steady current II flowing through a conductor is directly proportional to the potential difference VV applied across its two ends, provided the physical state (temperature, dimensions, etc.) of the conductor remains unchanged.

Mathematically: V∝I  ⟹  V=IRV \propto I \implies V = IR

where the constant of proportionality RR is called the electrical resistance of the conductor, measured in ohms (Ω\Omega). Equivalently, R=VIR = \dfrac{V}{I}, a constant for a given conductor at a given temperature.
