As the block slides, friction between the block and the table does negative work on the block, converting its kinetic energy into heat that warms both the block and the table surface slightly.

For the process to be reversible, it would have to be possible to run it exactly backward: the heat generated would have to spontaneously gather itself back up and reconvert into ordered kinetic energy, sending the block moving again on its own, entirely without any external agent supplying energy.
