What do the Directive Principles contain?

The Directive Principles cover a wide range of social and economic goals. They

direct the state to secure an adequate means of livelihood for all citizens, equal pay for equal

work for both men and women, and to prevent the concentration of wealth and the means of production

in the hands of a few. They ask the state to provide free legal aid so that no citizen is denied

justice because of poverty, and to organise village panchayats as units of local self-government.

Other Directive Principles direct the state to secure, within the limits of its economic capacity,

the right to work, to education, and to public assistance in cases of unemployment, old age,

sickness, and disablement; to ensure humane conditions of work and maternity relief; to work towards

a uniform civil code for all citizens; to protect and improve the environment and to safeguard
