Classified & Commercial Advertisements

An advertisement announces a need, offer, or product in a compact, attention-drawing form. CBSE tests two types:

• Classified advertisements — the small-column "want ads" (To Let, For Sale, Situations Vacant, Lost & Found, Matrimonial, Tuition). They are telegraphic: short phrases, abbreviations, no full sentences, enclosed in a small box.
• Commercial advertisements — larger, creative promotions for a product or service, using a catchy headline, slogan, and persuasive language, often with a box or display layout.

Exact format expected.

Classified: a small box containing — a category heading (e.g. TO LET, FOR SALE); the essential details in crisp phrases (what, key features, price/rent, location); and a contact (phone/address/box number). Abbreviations (AC, BHK, Nr., Contact) are acceptable and expected. Keep it to about 50 words.

Commercial: a box with — the product/brand name; an attractive headline/slogan; 2-3 lines on features or benefits; an offer or call to action; and contact details.

CBSE marking scheme (typically 4 marks). Roughly: Format (box, appropriate heading/category, layout) – about 1 mark; Content (all relevant details/features) – about 2 marks; Expression (concise, correct, persuasive) – about 1 mark.
