Writing Skills & Grammar — Class 11 English (Core), concept-first.

Section B of the CBSE Class 11 English Core paper tests how clearly and correctly you can communicate in real-world situations. It is the part of the exam where you produce language rather than read or analyse it, so it rewards students who practise format and precision, not just those who read widely.

Writing Skills & Grammar: Section B Overview

Section B of the CBSE Class 11 English Core paper tests how clearly and correctly you can communicate in real-world situations.

1

Notice Writing

A notice is a short, formal, boxed announcement put up to inform a specific group of people about an event, meeting, competition, lost article, or similar matter.

2

Poster Writing

A poster is a visual-verbal appeal designed to catch attention and spread a message quickly — about a campaign, event, social cause, or product.

3

Classified & Commercial Advertisements

An advertisement announces a need, offer, or product in a compact, attention-drawing form. CBSE tests two types:

4

Business / Official Letters

A business or official letter is a formal letter written for a practical, transactional purpose — making an enquiry, placing an order, lodging a complaint, or replying to any of these.

5

Letters of Application & Letters to the Editor

Two common formal letters, each with a clear audience and purpose.

6

Speech / Debate Writing

A speech is a talk delivered to an audience to inform, persuade, or motivate; a debate is a formal argument for or against a motion.

7

Article & Report Writing

These two formats are frequently tested together because both demand organised, factual writing — but their purpose and tone differ.

8

Note-Making & Summarising

This task tests whether you can read a passage, pick out its essential ideas, and present them in a compact, organised form — a skill useful for revision and research.

9

Grammar (Integrated & Error-Based)

The grammar portion of Section B tests accuracy in context. Questions are usually integrated — set inside sentences or a short passage — rather than as isolated rule-quoting.

Section B: Quick Revision Summary

Section B rewards format discipline and accuracy more than long writing. Keep this checklist in mind before the exam.
