Notice Writing

A notice is a short, formal, boxed announcement put up to inform a specific group of people about an event, meeting, competition, lost article, or similar matter. In the CBSE Class 11 paper it tests whether you can convey essential information briefly, clearly, and in the correct format. The golden rule: a notice answers the reader's five questions — What, When, Where, Who, and How — in as few words as possible.

Exact format expected. Enclose the whole notice in a box. Inside, in order:

  1. Name of the issuing body/school (top, centred or as a heading).
  2. The word NOTICE (centred, in capitals).
  3. Date of issue (left-aligned).
  4. A short, catchy heading/title (centred, bold or capitals).
  5. The body — one short paragraph (40-50 words) carrying the five Ws.
  6. Signature block (left): the writer's signature, name, and designation (e.g. Head Boy, Secretary, Cultural Coordinator).

CBSE marking scheme (typically 4-5 marks). Roughly: Format (box, heading NOTICE, date, name, signature) – about 1 mark; Content (all relevant details, the five Ws) – about 2-3 marks; Expression (grammatical accuracy, appropriate formal tone, word limit) – about 1 mark.
